My alarm cut through the blissfully calm and peaceful air at 5am this morning. Only this time it wasn't for my usual 7am start at work, today I was getting up to be in Kings Cross for 7am for my first ever NTC (Nike Training Club) session.
I got up at 5am like a true soldier, scoffed a protein bar (and possibly a cheeky energy drink), got my workout gear on (which included two odd socks... I discovered this whilst stretching in the class - probably should have had the energy drink before changing?) and headed on out the door. I've always missed out on NTC events in London - only ever finding out about them through people's social media picture posts boasting the event the days following. Finally, I was actually going!
I arrived at Granary Square; where loads of young girls dressed head to toe in Nike gear awaited for the class to start. There was a big black platform in the centre, surrounded by baskets of Smart water and, in the corner, a Pip and Nut post workout breakfast bar radiating the square with the smell of freshly toasted bread.
The class was split into three parts:
The first; a warm up. And when I say a 'warm up' it was pretty much a total workout! Think tons of burpies, squat jumps and lunges.
The middle; working out in pairs - a series of fun exercises to challenge and motivate your partner.
and finally, the last stage; working out with a resistance bands. A million burning pulse movements. OUCH!
The event was so much fun and the atmosphere was awesome. There was loads of energy, from both participants and the trainer. Everyone was having fun, and putting in their all even through the rain.
Pip and Nut's toast bar was the perfect post workout brekkie; sourdough toast smothered in tasty smooth nut butter, fresh berries, hearty bananas and dark chocolate - if only they could make my toast every...
